On December 3, 2024, the RTC previewed our Utility Engagement Playbook for Industrial Customers ahead of its planned release on December 11. Cihang Yuan, Senior Program Officer at World Wildlife Fund, and Melissa Whited, Vice President at Synapse Energy Economics, shared the context and purpose of the playbook along with the key takeaways.
Electrification presents a high-impact, near-term solution to enhance U.S. clean manufacturing and accelerate industrial decarbonization. For electric utilities, this shift represents a major business opportunity. However, for industrial customers, access to electricity and its cost remain two significant barriers to the feasibility and economic viability of electrification projects. Our new Utility Engagement Playbook presents a menu of utility and policy interventions industrial customers could pursue in collaboration with utilities, PUCs, and state policymakers to address these challenges.
