Cornell University, Danone, State of Minnesota, Toyota Motor North America, Brightcore Energy, Darcy Solutions, GreenGas, NW Natural Renewables, Trane Technologies, and Verbio Join the RTC in Q2 2025
Washington, D.C. – The Renewable Thermal Collaborative (RTC), the only global coalition focused exclusively on the decarbonization of thermal energy with renewable solutions, today shared its Quarterly Update on Industrial Decarbonization (QUID) for the second quarter of 2025. Highlights include: four new members and six new Solutions Providers joined the RTC, bringing the total number of participating companies to 118; the RTC released one updated support tool; the RTC conducted three events; and four RTC Members and four Solutions Providers announced new projects. These highlights represent some, but not all, of the progress being made towards the RTC objective of accelerating the pace of industrial decarbonization in the U.S. and around the world.
“The RTC’s continued growth in the second quarter signals that the clean energy transition is still moving forward,” explained RTC Executive Director Blaine Collison. “Despite economic uncertainty, leading companies, municipal and state governments, and educational institutions around the world remain committed to reducing costs while also reducing carbon emissions and meeting corporate sustainability goals. The RTC is here to help them achieve their business and efficiency goals by identifying pathways to scale up renewable heating and cooling technologies in their facilities.”
Highlights of the second quarter of 2025 include the following:
1) Four New Members and Six New Solutions Providers
With the addition of the following companies last quarter, the RTC includes 52 Members and 65 Solutions Providers in the United States and around the world, totaling 118 participants. Members include global industrial and institutional energy buyers that represent more than $6.5 trillion in market capitalization across a range of industries, including chemical, food and beverage, consumer packaged goods, and pharmaceuticals. Solutions Providers provide relevant services for buyers and include equipment and engineering companies, advisors, developers, and others working to accelerate the renewable thermal market.
Cornell University is a privately endowed research university and a partner of the State University of New York. They are committed to achieving campus Carbon Neutrality by 2035.
Danone is a global food and beverage company known for its dairy and plant-based products, bottled water, and specialized nutrition products. They are committed to achieving Net-Zero emissions by 2050.
State of Minnesota is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions 50% by 2030 from 2005 levels.
Toyota Motor North America, Inc., headquartered in Plano, Texas, brings together Toyota’s marketing, sales, engineering, and manufacturing aims in North America. They are committed to reaching carbon neutrality with their products, services, and operations.
Brightcore Energy delivers geothermal, solar, and energy efficiency solutions to commercial, institutional, and government clients.
Darcy Solutions develops groundwater based geothermal systems to provide energy efficient heating and cooling for buildings of all kinds.
GreenGas partners with global businesses to help reduce their environmental footprint by providing renewable natural gas and other products.
NW Natural Renewables, a part of NW Natural Holding Company, provides renewable fuels to support decarbonization in the utility, commercial, industrial, and transportation sectors.
Trane Technologies brings efficient and sustainable climate solutions to buildings, homes, and transportation. Its portfolio of products and services includes the brands Trane® and Thermo King®.
Verbio is a manufacturer of biofuels and bioenergy with locations in Europe, Asia, and North America. They produce biodiesel, bio ethanol, and bio methane, as well as feed, organic fertilizers, and other high-value co-products for the nutrition, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics industries.
2) One Updated Support Tool and Three Events
The Collaborative released one updated support tool and convened three events in the second quarter of 2025.
Heat Pump Decision Support Tools – Version 2.0: These tools are a series of information resources designed to help manufacturers determine how best to integrate industrial heat pumps into their operations.
Heat Pump Decision Support Tools: Launching Version 2.0 Webinar: This webinar previewed the updates to the RTC’s Heat Pump Decision Support Tools originally released in March 2023. These freely available, spreadsheet-based resources simplify the complex process of evaluating heat pump installations, making it accessible for both technical and non-technical staff to understand the best fit for their industrial operations. During the webinar, the tool developers from Verco demonstrated version 2.0’s new features and Nuria Navarette of Heineken shared practical insights on how the tools can support project implementation.
Innovative Pilot Projects Case Study Webinar: This webinar featured lessons learned from two pioneering pilot projects: Thermal Energy Storage at Purchase College, SUNY and Solar Thermal at Birra Peroni Brewery. Featured speakers included Joakim Bystrom of RTC Solutions Provider Absolicon Solar Collector AB, Gadi Sharir of RTC Solutions Provider Brenmiller Energy, and Steven Wilkie of the New York Power Authority.
IHP Alliance Buyer-Supplier Connect Sessions: The Industrial Heat Pump Alliance (IHP) held these invitation-only sessions for potential buyers and IHP manufacturers, distributors, and service providers to conduct one-on-one, private meetings to evaluate how different IHP solutions can support thermal decarbonization objectives. The IHP Alliance is a partnership between the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), and the RTC.
3) Eight New Member & Solutions Provider Projects
The RTC is the only place where large thermal energy users come together collaboratively with innovative solutions providers to understand the problems in the market, learn from each other, and overcome the barriers to renewable heating and cooling. Four RTC Members and four RTC Solutions Providers announced new projects in the Fourth Quarter. To learn more about these announcements, visit the RTC LinkedIn page.
“Optimizing operations and reducing emissions are priorities for our Members today and every day,” said Perry Hodgkins Jones, RTC Membership Director. “By providing opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and education, the RTC is helping Members meet their decarbonization goals despite the changing dynamics of the global economy.”
