The Maryland Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard Program requires electricity suppliers to source 50% of their retail electricity sales by 2030 from renewable energy sources, which have been classified as Tier 1 and Tier 2 renewable sources. Tier 1 includes solar, qualifying biomass, methane from a landfill or wastewater treatment plant, geothermal, fuel cells producing electricity from another Tier 1 source, and other technologies.
