About the RTC

The Renewable Thermal Collaborative (RTC) is the global coalition of companies, institutions, and governments committed to decarbonizing thermal energy use by scaling up renewable heating and cooling technologies at their facilities. Its work is focused across the intersecting issues of technology, market development, and policy.

The RTC offers an implementation-focused, collaborative platform to advance the needs of manufacturers and other large thermal buyers to tackle barriers to renewable thermal energy. Members (buy-side) and Solutions Providers (supply-side) participate in multiple solution-specific workstreams, and engage regularly with RTC staff to inform the development of resources and tools to address common barriers to implementation.

The RTC was founded in 2017 and is facilitated by the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES), David Gardiner & Associates (DGA), and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The RTC is a pre-commercial, pre-competitive initiative that conducts all of its work in compliance with antitrust guidelines.

The main goals of the RTC are to:

Identify and Address Barriers

Accelerate solutions

Implement Projects and Policies

Driving Change Across Industries

A Powerful Coalition of Energy Users and Solutions Providers

The RTC is a growing network of companies and organizations committed to the global decarbonization of thermal energy. Through regular virtual convenings, including solutions-focused workstreams and networking opportunities, the RTC provides the platform and pathways for learning, partnership, and resource-development.

RTC Members represent more than $6 trillion in market capitalization and include companies and institutions across a diverse range of industries, including leaders in the automotive, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, consumer packaged goods, paper, healthcare, higher education, building materials, and technology sectors.

The RTC also includes a growing network of Solutions Providers including renewable thermal technology developers, project financiers, consultants, utilities, and more.

Our Vision for Thermal Decarbonization

The RTC is the only global coalition focused exclusively on the decarbonization of thermal energy with renewable solutions.

Create a community of over 100 thermal buyers by 2026.

Enact policies for 30% industrial thermal emission cuts by 2030 and full decarbonization by 2050.

Accelerate adoption of renewable thermal solutions across the globe.
