The Industrial Heat Shot was the sixth branch of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Energy Earthshots Initiative to be announced, in September of 2022. It aims to develop cost-competitive industrial heat decarbonization technologies to achieve 85% lower greenhouse gas emissions by 2035. Resources for the department-wide initiative come from current and planned DOE appropriations, along with additional funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provision 41008 and from the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations through the Inflation Reduction Act.
