The Advanced Industrial Facilities Deployment Program (AIFDP) was introduced through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) in 2022. The program provides competitive funding to owners or operators engaged in energy-intensive industrial processes for projects that significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This support is intended to demonstrate the technical and commercial viability of emissions reduction technologies. Eligible uses include installation or implementation of advanced industrial technologies, retrofits or operational improvements to implement advanced industrial technologies, and engineering studies and other work needed to prepare facilities for the aforementioned activities. Over $5.8 billion is available to eligible recipients through the IRA with a 50% cost share requirement. The final application deadline has passed, and funds must be obligated by September 30, 2026. The Industrial Emission Demonstration Projects program, created through the Clean Industrial Technology Act of 2019, was included in this funding opportunity announcement after the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) of 2021 appropriated $500 million in funding.
