Geothermal Grant and Loan Program

The Geothermal Grant and Loan Program funds various geothermal resource developments in California using the state’s Geothermal Resources Development Account. 30% of these funds are available for the California Energy Commission to promote and maintain its geothermal energy resources, including through various loans and grants to local jurisdictions and private entities that engage in geothermal RD&D. Where private entities receive funds, they must match this with equal investment to ensure tangible project benefits and also gain approval from their project’s locality.
