Maine requires state agencies to develop and execute sustainability plans that keep them on target for meeting the statewide renewable energy and GHG reduction timelines. All new buildings or substantial renovations to existing buildings must consider energy efficiency, have an energy use target that exceeds institutional and commercial building standards by at least 20%, perform a life-cycle analysis of a minimum of 30 years that addresses the benefits of efficiency improvement.
