Maryland Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard

The Maryland Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard Program requires electricity suppliers to source 50% of their retail electricity sales by 2030 from renewable energy sources. Of this 50% of retail electricity sales, a minimum of 35.5% must come from Tier I resources, a minimum of 14.5% must be derived from solar energy. Tier I includes solar, qualifying biomass, methane from a landfill or wastewater treatment plant, geothermal, fuel cells producing electricity from another Tier I source, and other technologies. Suppliers can use Renewable Energy Credits or make alternative compliance payments to achieve compliance.
