Energy Efficiency in State Facilities

State entities including boards, departments, commissions, and authorities are required to perform energy analyses and reviews. This excludes the Iowa General Assembly, the court system, political subdivisions, and the Governor’s office. State entities must also purchase energy equipment that meets a certain efficiency criteria. Construction or renovation of state-owned buildings must incorporate at least one proposal which reflects the lowest life cycle energy cost for the project. In addition, construction or renovation projects for facilities over 20,000 sq. ft. by a state agency, political subdivision of the state, school district, area education agency, or community college must perform energy life-cycle cost analyses and implement resulting recommendations.
