California restricts the amount that local governments can charge for solar permits. Commercial solar thermal system permit costs are capped at $1,000 for systems up to 30 kWth, allowing for an additional $7 for every kW between 30 kWth and 260 kWth, and allowing for an additional $5 for every kWth over 260 kWth. The permit fee limitations are currently in place until January 1, 2034.
