DESCRIPTION:More than a dozen large industrial\, commercial\, and institutional energy users recently issued the Renewable Thermal Buyers’ Statement. The Buyers’ Statement is a project of the Renewable Thermal Collaborative (RTC)\, and serves as an invitation to market stakeholders to collaborate to increase and accelerate energy users’ access to cost-effective\, responsibly-sourced\, renewable and lower-carbon thermal energy solutions. \nOn Tuesday\, April 2 at 2 pm ET\, the RTC hosted a detailed discussion of the Renewable Thermal Buyers’ Statement and the important market barriers and opportunities it highlights. \nRepresentatives from Cargill\, L’Oréal USA\, and the City of Philadelphia shared their perspectives as large thermal energy users and Members of the RTC Steering Committee. The World Wildlife Fund discussed the critical importance of decarbonizing thermal energy use globally\, as well as the value and effectiveness of market demand signals. SUMMARY:Webinar: Overcoming Barriers to Renewable Heating and Cooling
DESCRIPTION:Energy used for heating and cooling comprises approximately 50 percent of total global final energy demand and 39 percent of energy-related carbon dioxide emissions. Yet despite its large energy and carbon footprint and its significant potential to reduce carbon emissions\, the use of renewable energy for heating and cooling applications has received relatively little attention compared with renewable electricity. The Renewable Thermal Collaborative (RTC) has released a several groundbreaking publications in recent months that aim to address barriers to scaling up renewable thermal\, including guidance on carbon accounting\, a landscape review of the global market\, and a series of case studies. \nOur webinar on November 1 at 1 p.m. ET featured a discussion among large energy buyers about their experiences scaling up renewable thermal energy at their own facilities. The webinar included an in-depth review of the new series of case studies illustrating different renewable thermal technologies with Jessica Leung\, Solutions Fellow of the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES). Members of the RTC\, Jay Harf of L’Oréal USA and Steve Skarda of Procter & Gamble\, discussed unique financing strategies\, challenges\, and lessons learned from their own projects. \nA copy of the slide deck is now available here and you can watch a recording below.
